CONTEMPLATION BEYOND
SYMBOL OR FORM

Evagrius Ponticus, the great Christian Desert Father, said, "Happy is the person who has attained to perfect formlessness at the time of prayer." Centering Prayer, which we begin practicing with a symbol of consent to God's presence and action, opens to the gift of contemplation - resting in God beyond words, symbols, and forms. This retreat morning explores symbols, and forms. This retreat morning explores how experienced practitioners of centering Prayer can more easily yield to Christ as the source of their prayer, rather than being stuck in words, sumbols, and forms. We will also explore how newer practitioners can remain attuned to the mystery of God's formless presence in their prayer. The morning will include two periods of Centering Prayer, instructional sessions, guided meditations and silent breaks.
